First came the 1817 stone cottage built by Dabney Jones, an early settler and first justice of the peace in Pike County. Then added onto that a few decades later was this grand & gorgeous Colonial-style brick home, with original millwork, site-made brick, butternut walnut floors and copper gutters.
This mailbox marker commemorates the original 1817 stone cottage as well the property's history as a popular amusement park known as Mineral Springs.

The property is a short walk or drive to Spencer Creek, a fork of the Salt River.
The bridge is closed so this is currently a dead end road.
Here's a deposition from 1819, signed by William Clark of Lewis & Clark fame....then the governor of the Missouri territory....certifying Dabney Jones as the first justice of the peace in Pike County. This dates from the same time period that Jones built the original stone cottage.
From the 1870s to the early 1900s, a "short line" railroad ran right next to this property and even had its own stop! It's listed as "Jones" on this old ticket.
In the late 1920s & early 30s, this property was known as Mineral Springs Park, a popular amusement destination with a dance hall, baseball fields and spring-fed pool!
